We met a new teacher today, he will mainly be teaching us on Illustrator and got us stuck into the benefits of the pen tool. We found out a lot more on depth of what this particular 'tool' does and the way in which we should use it of using it. First off we drew a cat, and I was quite pleased with my effort as I profess to not be an artist in any way shape or form. The ting I like about the pen tool most has to be the way it can draw curves, very funky and of course useful (else it would not be there). Next Monet was a house and I added a garden fence and crazing paving! Very enjoyable
On to the afternoon we had our first oral presentation on our 'logo' task. I choose the history of the VW emblem, mainly as of what it means to me. I feel it represents a kind of freedom, in the 60's it was associated with free love in the 'hippy' bus. But I was in fact shocked to find out that it was brought into production by Hitler, who of course suppressed the freedom of masses of people. And that the original logo was the swastika inside a cog, Kind of Ironic don't you think. It was interesting to see the other logos that people chose from google to the smiley face. Also in the history of logos and how the meaning they started with are not as relevant today, like in Starbucks coffee being a twin tailed mermaid that has changed considerable over the years in response to peoples perception of the image.
